General Education Requirements
To receive an undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University, students must meet both General Education Requirements and a specific degree program (i.e. major) course requirements. Listed below are the components of the General Education Requirements for all undergraduate degree programs. Note that many courses taken for major requirements can also fulfill General Education Requirements. Thus, one course can fulfill both a General Education Requirement and a major requirement. Courses that can fulfill both for the degree options in nutritional sciences are listed on their respective webpages.
Skills Courses - 15 Credits
- Writing/Speaking (GWS)- 9 credits (Listed below are three courses commonly taken at Penn State to fulfill this General Education Requirement.)
- ENGL 015 or equivalent
- ENGL 202 C
- CAS 100
- Quantification (GQ) - 6 credits
Knowledge Domains Courses - 30 Credits
- Health and Physical Activity (GHA) - 3 credits
- Natural Sciences (GN) - 9 credits
- Arts (GA) - 6 credits
- Humanities (GH) - 6 credits
- Social and Behavioral Sciences (GS) - 6 credits
Other General Education Requirements
All three areas must be filled. These requirements are usually met from the Knowledge Domain course selections or Degree requirement course selection. Check the General Education in the Curriculum book for further information.
