Mid-Atlantic territory for bringing a nutritious breakfast to their students in creative ways. The winning school in each state will receive $5,000 for successfully implementing one of the following alternate breakfast programs.

Breakfast in the Classroom – Students eat breakfast in their classroom upon arrival at school or early during the day. Breakfast is delivered to the classrooms or served from carts in the hallways.

“Grab and Go” Breakfast – Students quickly grab a prepackaged meal from either the cafeteria line or from carts located throughout the building. Students can eat in the classroom or elsewhere on school grounds.

Breakfast after 1st Period, Delayed or “Second Chance Breakfast” – Usually offered in middle and high schools, students are allowed time to eat breakfast after first period. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria or from carts at a central location in the school.

Breakfast on the Bus – Students eat breakfast while riding the bus to school. This is especially useful for consolidated school districts where students have a longer than normal commute to school.

Anyone in the school may apply for the award, including school nutrition professionals, school nurses, teachers or school administrators. Each school may apply only once.
