Ph.D. Program in Nutrition

The mission of the Ph.D. Nutrition Program is to promote and develop leaders in Nutrition. All students are admitted on a provisional basis pending satisfactory completion of the candidacy examination designed to assess the student's potential and academic preparation for doctoral study.

The comprehensive examination will be administered to Ph.D. candidates at least one semester prior to the scheduled Thesis Defense. If you have a M.S. Degree, the examination must be taken prior to earning 24 graduate credits beyond the masters or prior to 3 semester of enrollment, whichever comes first. For the exceptionally well qualified student who is admitted directly into the Ph.D. program (without receiving a M.S. degree), the examination must be taken within three semesters (summer sessions do not count) of entry into the doctoral program.

After the comprehensive examination, doctoral students enroll in Nutrn 601 or 611 which is considered to be a full load. Please refer to Recommended Schedule for Ph.D. Students.
